A-Z Index

"I don't have much time to sit and watch the videos one after another, but the Memories books are wonderful. I have taken one volume with me each of my last two trips overseas. I am not a big reader, but the Memories Volumes are so special. I love to read the Memories book on the plane, to read a bit at night just before I take rest, to read a page while my computer is booting up, and to read it during the evening classes I have been asked to give. The best thing about it, is how it reveals different devotees' inner personal experiences of Srila Prabhupada. As time goes by, there are fewer and fewer devotees left among us who had these face to face exchanges. Soon there will be none at all. The Memories books will help future generations to understand the sweet and loving side of Prabhupada that his books only hint at. I especially relish how the devotees reveal Srila Prabhupada's care, concern and compassion for each and every one of his disciples, and the people he met. These books reveal to us that Prabhupada was not stereotyped. Nor was he harsh or uncompromising in his unending effort to attract everyone he met to Krishna. And his humor! Prabhupada's books again hint at his humor, but the Memories Series reveals a deep and humorous side to our spiritual master. By reading these books, one's love of Prabhupada can only increase many fold. I am one of the last group of devotees to be directly initiated by Prabhupada. I was never able to take a morning walk, to have a personal darshan, or to offer personal service. Yet, for myself and for generations of other devotees to follow, these books reveal an intimate picture of our acarya that we hankered for, yet time prevented us. By revealing this deep understanding of Prabhupada, and making it available to all; by capturing individual disciple's most intimate and heart-filled memories of their dear most friend and guide; and by assuring that Prabhupada goes down in history not just as a teacher, but as a loving friend and guide to all he met--you have done great, great service to the Vaishnava community, and to all who seek to understand God and His message. Thank you."

Your servant,
Anuttama dasa

"The books are wonderful, a facet of Srila Prabhupada's myriad personality that I haven't seen before, and others are reminders of those parts that I'd forgotten, thank you so much for adding this jewel to the collection."

ANECDOTES OF A MODERN DAY SAINT
VOLUME 2
Memories Volume 2 CoverDuring the 25th Anniversary of the Disappearance of Srila Prabhupada, Mother Prasanti described that day as her favorite day of the year because that is when stories about His Divine Grace are told. As in the early days when a devotee would return from being with Srila Prabhupada and everyone would gather around wanting to hear the nectar from his or her association with the pure devotee, so it is now that we have the chance to hear from all those devotees in Volume 2 of “Memories-Anecdotes of a Modern Day Saint”. As Srila Prabhupada has given us the Krishna Book to learn about Krishna as a Person so we can develop our love for Him, we now have the opportunity to develop our love for Srila Prabhupada by hearing about his glories and personal instructions that cannot be found in any of his other books. Contains photos of every devotee who tell their memories from the video series Pt. 16 through Pt. 28.

Here are a few of the anecdotes that can be found within:

“I said to Srila Prabhupada, ‘I must have fallen in maya.’ Srila Prabhupada said, ‘You’re always in maya, but sometimes you fall into Krishna.’” (Yogesvara dasa)

“I asked, ‘Prahbupada, sometimes I have problems and the spiritual master isn’t there and it’s too detailed for the scriptures. What should I do?” He said, ‘If you chant Hare Krishna very nicely, all the answers will come from within.’” (Bhargava dasa)

“At the end of his lecture Prabhupada said, ‘So if you will just follow these four regulative principles and chant sixteen rounds, then you will go back to home, back to Godhead. I guarantee it.’ He paused and looked around at all of us. Then he said again, ‘I guarantee it.’” (Dina Bandhu dasa)

MEMORIES BOOK INTRODUCTION

Sri Caitanya-Caritamrta 22.54
sadhu-sanga, sadhu-sanga — sarva-sastre kaya
lava-matra sadhu-sange sarva-siddhi haya

“The verdict of all revealed scriptures is that by even a moment’s association with a pure devotee, one can attain all success.”

These books of oral histories is a word for word transcription of the video series, “Memories of Srila Prabhupada” which are interviews of those fortunate souls who had that all important association with a pure devotee, in the person of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Also known as “Srila Prabhupada”, the founder-acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, His Divine Grace has been well recognized by scholars, religionists and lay-persons alike, as one of the most prominent ambassadors of India’s spiritual culture in modern times and whose character was beyond reproach. <read more>

Quotes From Back Cover
Volume 1

One day while I was searching for a story to read, he said, “Just read from anywhere. Krishna is like a sweet ball. Wherever you bite, it’s sweet." Then I quickly went to the next page and began reading.

One morning we were walking on Juhu beach while birds were flying overhead in perfect formation. These birds would fly in a line or make a "U" turn all together. So I asked Prabhupada, “How do these birds fly in a perfect formation? How do they communicate with each other?” And Prabhupada’s response was, “They are not less intelligent like you are.” <read more>

Quotes From Back Cover
Volume 2

At the end of his lecture Prabhupada said, “So if you will just follow these four regulative principles and chant sixteen rounds then you will go back to home, back to Godhead. I guarantee it.” He paused and looked around at all of us. Then he said again, “I guarantee it.”

Tamal had asked, “What is more important, sankirtan, rounds, devotional service, or our health?” Prabhupada answered, “The highest principle is to save yourself.”

I said to Srila Prabhupada, “I must have fallen in maya.” Srila Prabhupada said, “You’re always in maya, but sometimes you fall into Krishna.”

I asked, “Prabhupada, sometimes I have problems and the spiritual master isn’t there and it’s too detailed for the scriptures. What should I do?” And he said, “If you chant Hare Krishna very nicely, all the answers will come from within.”

Prabhupada’s compassion is that in his old age he left Vrindavan to bring us Krishna consciousness in the hell of New York. That’s compassion.

I asked, “Prabhupada, if devotees are transcendental then…” Again Prabhupada cut me off in mid-sentence. He said, “Not transcendental. Trying to be transcendental.”

Bahulasva said, “Srila Prabhupada, one of the arguments is that no one has seen God.” Prabhupada stopped and said, “No fool has seen God. I am not a fool like you. I have seen God.”

I asked him once, “Have you seen Krishna?” And he said, “Yes.” I said, “What does Krishna look like?” And he said, “You have seen this acetylene torch, you cannot look with your eye?”

Prabhupada said to me, “Everything is so nice in the Western countries; if they would simply stop eating the cow. Isn’t there any other kind of meat they can eat besides the cow?”
